Types of Woods
Pine: This wood is strong and sturdy. It is used in most shelters, in both pressure treated and untreated forms. An economical alternative for benches and tables. Accepts stains and finishes well.
Western Red Cedar which has a reddish tint is used in shelters for fascia and roof decking. Alaskan Yellow Cedar is used in site furnishings. It is very durable and is naturally immune to decay and weather checking. It's yellow color when new, ages to a rich even gray.
Only No.1 grade is used. Noted for its strength and rich grain, oak is ideal for indoor benches and site furnishings. Oak in not recommended for outdoor use and will not be covered under warranty if placed outdoors.
Douglas Fir: Clear vertical grain, where a rich off white wood is required with similar characteristics as pine. It can be used as roof decking in shelters or submitted for pine in benches and tables.
Redwood is naturally resistant to decay and weathers nicely. Clear all heart redwood is beautiful and stylish, keeping a consistent color throughout. Construction heart redwood is used where thicker redwood is desired. It has the same characteristics as clear all heart but allows for small tight knots and variations in color.
A beautiful dark reddish-brown hardwood which has a natural lustre. A durable wood with its rich tones make it a natural for outdoor use in benches and tables.
This Australian hardwood is reddish brown in color. It is a very dense and durable wood which weathers extremely well and is highly resistant to termites. A perfect choice for any outdoor site amenity.
May also be known as Pau Lopé. This wood id three times harder than oak, making it an excellent choice for outdoor uses and where vandal resistance is needed. It is olive-brown in color but do allow for some variations in shade. It weathers to a beautiful gray.
This wood is similar in characteristics in Ipe. It is a vivid purple in color and weathers to a natural silver gray. Light sanding will bring back the original purple color. This wood is difficult to carve and extremely fire resistant.
