Hand Carved Carousel Horses (& More) on Consignment
$6,500: Genuine all-wood carousel horse, circa 1926. This carousel horse is from a large park machine, originally located in Sunset Bay, New York. All the horses were in very good condition when this carousel was sold as a unit to a new resort owner which then sold the horses individually and are the last of the set to be sold. This is a large carousel horse, which is more typical on park machines, with its head with a jeweled harness stretching forward, and a beautiful deeply carved mane that flows over the neck. The jeweled saddle is carved in deep relief and the ears "set back", as the horse is in a jumping position. Since these items were not subject to the wear that occurred during transit and set-up of portable carousels that Herschell built. It has the original metal horseshoes and cast iron plate. This carousel horse was professionally restored by Charles Hunt of Elma, New York in 1986 and has not been in carousel use since 1973.
