Hand Carved Carousel Horses (& More) on Consignment
$ 8,000: This 1906 C.W. Parker carousel horse was carved in the C.W. Parker factory by Eugene Drisco or Leon White, master carvers at the shop during the period. This carousel horse represents an unusual period in the development of the Colonel’s own style. This typical track machine style Parker carousel horse closely resembles the Armitage Herschell figure it was copied from. The horse was carved 5 years before Parker moved his operation in 1911 from Abilene, Kansas to Leavenworth, Kansas.
During the restoration phase, I (Craig Swanson) removed hundreds of nails, screws, steel straps, and tin patches accumulated over eighty-seven years of travel from town to town on the midwestern carnival circuit. These early repairs, in time, cause more and more problems.
The little Parker carousel horse has metal horseshoes. The eyes are glass and the figure is highlighted with a real horse hair tail.
