Hand Carved Carousel Horses (& More) on Consignment
$4,000: 1909 Heyn Horse (German Karussell). The earliest established carousel figure manufacturer in Germany can be positively verified to be Freidrich Heyn. The price of a horse varied from 21 marks to 145 marks depending on size and detail. The horses had simple saddles with a plain scroll for the cantle and relied on the paintwork for their decoration. All tails were real hair. Each horse had a very kind expression with the glass eyes opened wide and the ears standing forward. Heyn supplied horses with outstretched legs for hanging-horse carousels. Craig Swanson restored this horse in 1994, removing all the old attempts to repair damage (nails, screws, tin patches, etc.) accumulated over eighty years of wear and tear.
