Hand Carved Carousel Horses (& More) on Consignment

$5,000: The horses produced by Allan Herschell in North Tonawanda, New York, after World War I, were made with the aid of carving machines. making the figures more durable and economical was a necessity fostered by close competition, and hard times following the crash of the stock market. In the process, the heads became oversized and the ears were carved in the laid-back position to reduce damage during transit and set-up.
I (Craig Swanson) have completely restored this original Allan Herschell blanket pony, returning it to its 1922 splendor. It has metal horse shoes, bit, and stirrup holders. Although simply carved, the decorative painting adds life, muscles, and richness. It is a classic example of the Allan Herschell carousel works. Contact Craig Swanson 816-833-3573
