Hand Carved Carousel Horses (& More) on Consignment
$6,500: Genuine all-wood Allan Herschell carousel horse, circa 1920. This carousel horse is from a large park machine, originally located in Wisconsin Dels. All the horses were in very good condition when this carousel was sold as a unit to a group of collectors, who then sold the individual horses. This is a large carousel horse, which was more typical on park machines, with a tucked head, and a beautiful deeply carved mane that even flows over the forehead. The saddle is carved in deep relief and the ears are "perked up", since these items were not subject to the wear that occurred during transit and set-up of portable carousels that Herschell built. It has the original metal horseshoes and cast iron bottom plate. This carousel horse was professionally restored by Allen Hess in 1993. Allen also built the very sturdy oak base and spiral brass pole assembly to display the horse. Contact Darold Cummings at 310-643-7987 in the USA, pacific time.
