The Global Positioning System, or GPS, is a constellation of U.S. Government satellites providing the most advanced and accurate positioning and navigation service the world has ever known. Equipped with atomic clocks, twenty-four GPS satellites orbit 12,000 miles above the Earth, constantly transmitting the precise time and their position in space. Magellan’s GPS receivers listen to these satellite signals and use the information to determine the location of the receiver, as well as how fast and in what direction it is moving.
